As the country confronts a wide range of deep and difficult challenges, the American people have spoken. They voted for change. They voted for progress. And today, those votes are delivering a new administration and a new day in American political leadership.
We expect quick action from President Biden. He has teed up a range of executive actions to recommit the U.S. to the Paris climate agreement, advance clean energy policies, reduce transportation pollution and get America back on track when it comes to dealing with the grave and growing threats of climate change and environmental injustice.
It is a new day — and thanks to your support and action, we are prepared to seize every opportunity to advance the boldest and most impactful climate and clean energy agenda in American history.
You can help right now by adding your name to our People’s Climate Petition.
[link removed]’re halfway to our goal of 100,000 signers — which we will deliver to the Biden White House and to Congressional leadership to build political momentum for ambitious action.
For those of us who’ve been engaged in the climate fight over so many years and multiple administrations, this is a unique and important moment.
The American people understand the threat much more clearly and in many cases have suffered devastating personal losses.
Deadly wildfires, drought, heat waves, monster storms, coastal flooding and so much more have brought climate impacts into our communities, into our homes, into our lives. They’ve scarred us and have made us feel vulnerable.
At the same time, we see the promise of clean energy innovation and a growing electric vehicle market. In more and more places across America, solar and wind have become not only the cleanest energy sources, but the most economical.
And while there are still powerful interests aligned against us, growing majorities support national climate action.
This is our time — and with your continued support, we intend to seize it.
It’s a new day. And future generations will applaud us for the progress we will make together.
Thank you,
Sam Parry

P.S. We didn’t have to wait for the new administration to be sworn in to celebrate a huge legal victory. Yesterday, the last day of Donald Trump’s presidency, the second highest court in the land struck down one of the most damaging anti-environmental actions of his administration.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit vacated the Trump EPA’s repeal and “replacement” of the Clean Power Plan – the historic Obama-era standards that set the first-ever limits for climate change pollution from existing power plants.
Thanks to your support, EDF was part of a broad coalition of 14 health and environmental groups, 23 states and eight cities, nine power companies, and three clean energy associations that filed suit against Trump’s EPA. And the court ruled in our favor, calling their efforts to “slow the process for reduction of emissions... arbitrary and capricious.”
It’s a new day indeed!
