The End of the Great Stagnation
Tuesday, 19th January 2020 at 6.00pm UK time
------------------------------------------------------------

In 2011, Tyler Cowen published a pamphlet on 'The Great Stagnation' in America. He argued that the American economy has reached a historical technological plateau and the factors that drove economic growth for most of America's history are no longer present. These figurative "low-hanging fruit" include the cultivation of much free, previously unused land, technological breakthroughs in transport, refrigeration, electricity, mass communications, and sanitation, and the growth of education.

Now, 10 years later, we may just be emerging from the Great Stagnation which has blighted many Western economies. How have we gotten to this point, and what comes next as we emerge into a new era of productivity?

ASI Deputy Director Matt Kilcoyne will be joined by leading economic and political voices to discuss the next era of Western economies.

Guests:

Matt Kilcoyne, Deputy Director, ASI (host)

Daniel Capurro, Front Bench Editor at the Telegraph

Alec Stapp, director of technology policy at the Progressive Policy Institute. His work has been cited in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times and published in Politico, Salon, and National Review. He holds an MA in economics from George Mason University and a BSBA in economics from the University of Arizona.

Details:

Date: Tuesday, 19th January 2020
Time: 6.00pm - 7.00pm (UK time)

The webinar will begin at 6.00pm, with an audience Q&A session taking place at approximately 6.45pm. The webinar will conclude at 7.00pm.
Kind regards,
Matt Kilcoyne
