The End of the Great Stagnation

In 2011, Tyler Cowen published a pamphlet on 'The Great Stagnation' in America. He argued that the American economy has reached a historical technological plateau and the factors that drove economic growth for most of America's history are no longer present. These figurative "low-hanging fruit" include the cultivation of much free, previously unused land, technological breakthroughs in transport, refrigeration, electricity, mass communications, and sanitation, and the growth of education.

Now, 10 years later, we may just be emerging from the Great Stagnation which has blighted many Western economies. How have we gotten to this point, and what comes next as we emerge into a new era of productivity?

ASI Deputy Director Matt Kilcoyne will be joined by leading economic and political voices to discuss the next era of Western economies.
