Hi John,
Today is Martin Luther King Day, a day to honor the life and legacy of one of our country’s greatest leaders.
Every year, MLK Day marks our biggest hearing day of the year. We organize hundreds of volunteers to travel to the state capitol to show their support for gun responsibility. We recruit scores of survivors, community leaders, and experts to testify in support of lifesaving policies. And we deliver the message to our elected leaders that it is their responsibility to act on gun violence prevention.
This day is vital to our success. It shows the energy and the heart behind our movement.
But of course, everything is different this year. The pandemic is still gripping our communities and the legislature is conducting business remotely. So instead of lining up outside the hearing rooms at 6am, we are home.
But that doesn’t mean we are any less fired up. It’s never been more clear that progress on gun violence prevention can’t wait. From rejecting armed intimidation and prohibiting high-capacity magazines to protecting investments in violence prevention programs and addressing bias in policing, we desperately need action to keep our communities safe.

Our legislative agenda addresses the pressing challenges facing our communities and our elected leaders. We will be working tirelessly to make sure they know Washingtonians expect them to act. But the constraints of this session mean we’re going to have to work twice as hard for the progress we desperately need. We won’t be able to do it without your help. Please, pitch in today to help secure our success this legislative session.
Thank you,
Renee (she/her)
