Like everyone, my heart broke as I watched tear gas used in the Capitol Rotunda last Wednesday.

As our nation reckons with the horrific attack on the U.S. Capitol, I wanted to share with you my latest op-ed in The Hill on why these events matter not just for our own democracy but for America's interests around the world.

Since our earliest days, America has always been a beacon of democracy for so many - and last week's shameful insurrection and political violence is exactly what we work to prevent around the globe.

As our country moves forward, I am keen to hear your thoughts because getting this right here at home matters. I look forward to hearing from you - more next week as the new Administration and Congress get underway. Stay safe.
