Dear friend,

Last week was a whirlwind. We witnessed an incredibly inspirationalaffirmation of our democracy, followed by an unprecedented attack on it.

While we condemn the latter, we also want to make sure to celebrate theformer. The vote tallies are still being finalized, but the big picture isclear: Georgia voters turned out in droves to make their voices heard, sendingSenators-elect Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to the United StatesSenate, and in the process flipping control of the chamber, with VicePresident-elect Kamala Harris poised to cast the tiebreaking vote.

Voter turnout in runoff elections has historically lagged far behind generalelections. Not this time. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of activists andorganizers in Georgia and around the country, 4.5 million ballots were cast,approaching the turnout we saw in November.

In addition to the 1.5 million letters that Vote Forward volunteers wrote toGeorgia for the general election, you wrote 2.6 million letters in just a fewweeks to encourage your fellow citizens to register, request absentee ballots,and vote in the runoff.

At a time when some are determined to cast doubt on and shake our faith indemocracy, we see the result from Georgia as an expression of deep faith inthat system, and it gives us a measure of hope for the future.

But there's a great deal of hard work to do to continue to reinforce thefabric of our civic life in the years ahead. We're busy making plans for thisyear and beyond and look forward to sharing those as they evolve.

But today, we want to take just a moment to celebrate the affirmation ofdemocracy we witnessed in Georgia. We're deeply grateful to all our volunteersfor the work you've done this election season and for all we've been able toaccomplish together.
