WHAT'S HAPPENING

RPNM CHAIRMAN ELECTED TO RNC BUDGET COMMITTEE

Republican National Committee members have elected Chairman Steve Pearce to serve on the RNC’s Budget Committee. Pearce was elected at the annual RNC Winter Meeting in Amelia Island, Florida. He was nominated by New Mexico National Committeeman and New Mexico House Minority Leader Jim Townsend. New Mexico National Committeewoman Tina Dziuk and Solomon Yue, National Committeeman of the Republican Party of Oregon, seconded the nomination. Pearce will help oversee the RNC budget and help make key decisions regarding Party’s fiscal and spending policies. The Committee provides budget planning for Conventions, battleground races and presidential elections.

COWBOYS FOR TRUMP LEADER MAKES INCENDIARY REMARKS AT WASHINGTON RALLY

Otero County Commissioner and Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin continues to stir controversy. Griffin, who attended the Washington rally that led to the violence at the U.S. Capitol, warned of future violence and “blood running out of that building.” He defending the riot and called for more in the future.

RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce issued the following statement regarding Griffin's comments:
“Mr. Griffin does not represent The Republican Party of New Mexico nor does he speak for the party. RPNM does not endorse or condone the statements made by Cowboys for Trump Founder Couy Griffin. RPNM condemns violence and any threats of violence against any person or group. What happened in Washington was wrong and was a stain on our great democracy.”

YVETTE HERRELL IS SWORN IN AS NEW MEXICO CONGRESSWOMAN

Yvette Herrell is now a member of the 117^th Congress, representing New Mexico’s 2^nd Congressional District. Herrell was sworn into office on January 3. She says she’s thankful to be a part of Congress and to serve her constituents. Congresswoman Herrell replaces Democrat Xochitl Torres Small, who served one term in the District. Herrell handily defeated Torres Small in the November election with 54% of the vote to 46%

SANTA FE STORE TO PAY MORE THAN $79,000 TO STATE AS PART OF GOVERNOR’S PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER

The state continues to unfairly target businesses with fines. O’Reilly Automotive Stores will pay a $79,200 penalty to the state of New Mexico as part of a settlement for violating state rules regarding COVID-19 restrictions. The penalty was issued by the New Mexico Environment Derpartment. The store was cited for failing to enforce the use of face coverings by employees. The state also says the store failed to post signs requiring the use of face coverings. Again, businesses continue to suffer as a result of the state’s illogical and unjust policies.

2020 ALBUQUERQUE HOMICIDES STILL SKY-HIGH DESPITE PANDEMIC
The city of Albuquerque remains one of the most dangerous cities in America. Crime continues to be a consistent problem in the Duke City. 2020 ended with 76 homicides in the city limits. That's four fewer that 2019's record 80 murders. The 76 homicides in 2020 was the second-highest count in recent history. Mayor Tim Keller's Administration continues to be weak on crime, one key reason we need a tough-on-crime Republican to win the city's top job this November.
