Dear Friend,

On Monday evening, I was elected Chair of the Arlington County Board by my colleagues. It is an honor that I do not take lightly. The greatest responsibility we have as a Board and I have as Chair is to do all I can to keep Arlington residents safe and healthy.

For our safety, I requested a curfew to keep the rioters from the Capitol from violence Wednesday night in Arlington. More on that below and later, when I am less worried about your health: broadly we were fine.

Fou our health, our test positivity rate in Arlington is 11.5%, very concerning.

I am keenly aware that we must accelerate our work on this: our staff is on it and the Manager and Board are focused as well. The County Board will hold a work session on this next Tuesday at 3 pm. Go here to join us then: [link removed]

Vaccinations are on our minds. So I want you to watch the video below to learn about where we are and the big picture:

On Monday we will be moving toward 1b, which now includes teachers. Updated information on 1b is available via the following press release and the link at the bottom of it, after you click the button below:

After 1a and 1b, we will come to 1c over the coming months. If you want to learn about 1c go to this press release from the Governor, which includes links and explains this well.

More to come on Monday. And, yes I am troubled by what happened at the Capitol. Troubled but not defeated. Worried, but still working. I will have more to say on that and Georgia soon.

For now, I want to share my speech from Monday after becoming Chair:

If you want to learn about the Board calling for a curfew and the Governor granting it, this article sums it up. [link removed]

Tonight, after 4 days as Chair, I am serving with a full heart. I ask you to be safe, take care of yourselves, and take care of each other in this difficult moment.

Yours,

Matt
