Trump lost Georgia by nearly 12,000 votes to Biden. "Finding" 11,780 votes would flip the state to Trump.

Throughout the one-hour phone call, which occurred on Saturday, Trump can be heard urging, lambasting, pleading, and threatening Raffensperger to find the votes to overturn his defeat. Here are some excerpts:
* Trump: "The people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry. And there's nothing wrong with saying that, you know, um, that you've recalculated."
* Raffensperger: "Well, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is, the data you have is wrong."

------------------------------------------------------------
* Trump: "The people of Georgia know that this was a scam, and because of what you've done to the president, a lot of people aren't going out to vote [in the runoffs]. A lot of Republicans are going to vote negative because they hate what you did to the president."

------------------------------------------------------------
* Trump: “There’s no way I lost Georgia. There’s no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes.”

** Nancy Pelosi Retains Speakership
------------------------------------------------------------

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has secured enough votes to win another term as Speaker of the House. It will be her fourth overall term as speaker, and her second consecutive term.

Only five Democrats opposed Pelosi: Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) voted for Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Rep. Conor Lamb (D-PA) voted for Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and Reps. Mikie Sherill (D-NJ), Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), and Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) voted present.

All Republicans in attendance voted for Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

House Democrats will hold one of the narrowest majorities in recent history ([link removed]) in the 117th Congress. With one race still uncalled, Democrats won 222 seats to 212 for Republicans.

** New Year, New Rules Package
------------------------------------------------------------

On Monday, the House will consider the rules package for the 117th Congress, which sets the rules and procedures the House will use to conduct its business. Rules packages often include changes aimed at strengthening the position of the majority and making changes to House procedures that reflect partisan goals.

Democrats’ rules package would reduce the ability of the Republican minority to offer amendments through the motion to recommit; prohibit the use of gendered terms in all business; and extend the ability of members to vote by proxy.

** And, in the End…
------------------------------------------------------------

đź‘Ť for Tom Thumb Day.

Charles Sherwood Stratton was born on today's date in 1838 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The man who would become known as "General Tom Thumb" stopped growing at six months; when he reached the age of 18, he was two feet, eight inches tall.

Stratton, at age 5, became one of the "wonders" at P.T. Barnum's American Museum in New York City. (P.S. - Barnum was no Hugh Jackman, he was an @$%&#.)
