Charles Sherwood Stratton was born on today's date in 1838 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The man who would become known as "General Tom Thumb" stopped growing at six months; when he reached the age of 18, he was two feet, eight inches tall.
Stratton, at age 5, became one of the "wonders" at P.T. Barnum's American Museum in New York City. (P.S. - Barnum was no Hugh Jackman, he was an @$%&#.)
