Dear Neighbors,
2020 has been a year of many challenges, losses, and deep heartache, but it
has also been a year of incredible progress. This year saw the triumph of a
new presidential administration, a nation-wide focus on racial justice and
equity, and a groundswell of community support for those in need. And one
great moment of progress this year in Ward 3 was the opening of our
short-term family housing facility, The Brooks. The Brooks has served as a
lifeline for families experiencing homelessness; it has given parents the
support and resources they need to get back on their feet, and provided a
nurturing, stable home for children during a time of great upheaval. It is
a blessing that our community is able to provide so many families with safe
shelter, and we are so incredibly lucky to have [1]Friendship Place at the
helm of such an important effort. The Brooks is something that I hope all
Ward 3 residents will feel pride in, and if anyone is looking to give to
our Brooks neighbors during the holidays, I recommend donating a toy,
family game, or book through their [2]online wish list with a local Ward 3
toy store.
Welcoming families to The Brooks was an undeniable joy in 2020, and it is
so important to remember the good that has emerged during such a difficult
year. And so, to our new neighbors and longtime residents, I wish you and
your loved ones a joyous holiday season and very happy new year.
Warmest wishes,
Mary & Team Cheh
