Dear Neighbors,

2020 has been a year of many challenges, losses, and deep heartache, but it has also been a year of incredible progress. This year saw the triumph of a new presidential administration, a nation-wide focus on racial justice and equity, and a groundswell of community support for those in need. And one great moment of progress this year in Ward 3 was the opening of our short-term family housing facility, The Brooks. The Brooks has served as a lifeline for families experiencing homelessness; it has given parents the support and resources they need to get back on their feet, and provided a nurturing, stable home for children during a time of great upheaval. It is a blessing that our community is able to provide so many families with safe shelter, and we are so incredibly lucky to have Friendship Place at the helm of such an important effort. The Brooks is something that I hope all Ward 3 residents will feel pride in, and if anyone is looking to give to our Brooks neighbors during the holidays, I recommend donating a toy, family game, or book through their online wish list with a local Ward 3 toy store.

Welcoming families to The Brooks was an undeniable joy in 2020, and it is so important to remember the good that has emerged during such a difficult year. And so, to our new neighbors and longtime residents, I wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season and very happy new year.

Warmest wishes,

Mary & Team Cheh
