Dear NRDC Supporter,

The climate crisis is here, now, and this year it raged a terrifying path
of destruction across the West Coast. More than 8,200 wildfires burned
through millions of acres, the air was choked with smoke, and thousands of
families were forced to flee their homes.

This cannot become our new normal. We urgently need solutions.

With the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, we have a brief,
critical window of time to make real, impactful progress in the fight
against climate change. And nothing demonstrates their commitment more
than this week's announcement that NRDC President Gina McCarthy was asked
to join the administration to serve in a powerful new position as their
National Climate Advisor.

NRDC will do everything in our power to make progress in our climate fight
— helping the administration in every way we can, and holding them
accountable when we must.

In 2020, wildfires blazed out of control not just in California, but
across the planet. Record-smashing infernos burned through forests in the

And it's not just wildfires. Millions of people have been hit hard by
extreme weather disasters made more destructive by climate change — from
record-breaking temperatures to deadly hurricanes — and time and again
communities of color are disproportionately bearing the brunt of these
crises.

But hope is not lost. Voters handed down a mandate in November to build a
better climate future and stem the tide of climate destruction. The
Biden-Harris climate plan is the most ambitious national plan we've ever
seen for confronting the growing crisis.

But make no mistake: There will be powerful special interests leaning on
the new administration and it's going to take massive pressure from
activists like you and me to push for decisive, immediate action on
climate change before it's too late. We will hold the new administration
accountable to their commitments.
