Space Force members will be known as “Guardians” from now on, Vice President Michael R. Pence announced during a Dec. 18 White House ceremony celebrating the new service's first birthday. “Guardians is a name with a long history in space operations, tracing back to the original command motto of Air Force Space Command in 1983, ‘Guardians of the High Frontier,’” according to the Space Force. The move is the latest step to establish the Space Force's unique culture and will shape its rank system as well.
