Twin Ports DSA Members and Associates:

I apologize for the multiple emails. I had intended to include this notice in the previous one.

As DSA in Minnesota has grown, so has member participation in the DFL. If you would like to be involved in a new Democratic Socialist Caucus in the DFL, I'm forwarding this invite to you, forwarded to us by Jo Haberman (invite from Samuel Doten):

"... I have been working with others to establish a Democratic Socialist Caucus in the DFL. Toward that end, I am calling forth the first organizational meeting for creating a Democratic Socialist Caucus this Wednesday, December 16 at 6:30 PM via Zoom. This is the right place for general interest, curiosity, and to learn more.

... while socialism is certainly a controversial topic and occasionally an epithet, it's more popular than capitalism among our party's voters. Some of the greatest and most popular accomplishments of Democratic presidents are socialist programs, such as Social Security and Medicare. Our nation's historic commitment to public education (by definition a socialist program) transformed the U.S. from a backwater, roughed up chain of colonies into a nation of informed, engaged citizens participating in popular democracy that was a model for much of the world. And while Republicans love to call Democrats crazy socialists for even the most modest of proposals and use a vast network of right wing news media, social media, and think tanks to spread misinformation and alarm about socialism, I know our party is one of intellectual curiosity, honest debate, and coalition building. I also know we are willing to question (or refine) our biases.

Democratic socialism is the belief that we should run society and the economy democratically to meet public needs instead of making profit for a few. I would struggle to explain better than the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) page: What is Democratic Socialism? ([link removed]) If this resonates with you, I invite you to join our first organizational meeting."

In solidarity,
John Krumm
TPDSA Secretary
