Creating a Green Workforce - Community Based Solutions for a Diverse Green Jobs Sector

Are you a girl or femme-identifying person of color?

Are you between 13-17 years of age?

Do you live in Northern Manhattan?

As a part of our Beauty Inside Out campaign ([link removed]) , we are conducting a survey of girls and femme-identifying people of color between 13-17 years of age that live in Northern Manhattan (West Harlem, Central Harlem, East Harlem, Inwood, and Washington Heights). The survey will help us better understand how girls and femme-identifying people of color use and feel about certain cosmetic products and how this might affect their health.

The survey takes 15-20 minutes, and respondents who complete the survey will also receive a $6 Subway Restaurant gift card. If you are between the ages of 13-17, parental permission is required.

If you are interested in participating, please complete this Google form ([link removed]) . Once the form is completed, a parent/legal guardian will be contacted, and you will be informed of the next steps.

Free Webinar on Vaccine Hesitancy in African American Communities

With a COVID-19 vaccine available soon, we wanted to share this free webinar on vaccine hesitancy in African American communities, which is due to the racist history of vaccine research and administration in the U.S. Vaccine refusal or delay has substantial public health implications. This webinar - on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 12:00 PM ET - will discuss the history of vaccine hesitancy and how trust can be built in the African American community to increase vaccine uptake. Take This Survey of Workers Impacted by COVID-19

The Environmental Health Science Center at the University of California-Davis is conducting research through an online survey to learn about the impacts of COVID-19. Specifically, they want to understand how workers have been affected, including those on the frontline, working remotely, laid off, experienced disruptions, or unable to continue with their previous work for whatever reasons. This independent research project is funded by the National Institutes of Health and aims to learn what keeps workers safer and more resilient on and off the job during the pandemic. WE ACT in the Community:
Thanksgiving Food Drive

WE ACT was happy to participate in a Thanksgiving Food Drive on Nov. 24. Staff members Evelyn Joseph, Charles Callaway, and Nicole Pavez helped distribute 225 frozen chickens and vegetables to hungry families in West Harlem. Many thanks to Red Hook and Gowanus Public Housing Community Leader Karen Dawn Blondel and Red Hook Container Terminal President & CEO Mike Stamatis who provided the produce and the Red Hook Container Terminal Longshoremen (ILA Local 1814) who donated money to purchase the chickens. And thanks to WE ACT member Diana Blackwell, who helped coordinate the distribution at NYCHA’s Frederick Samuel Houses.
