Jani Silva braves enormous danger to speak up for clean water and the right to a
healthy environment in the Amazon region of Colombia.
She has challenged contamination by oil companies and pollution of the river so
vital to local communities.
Jani is at extreme risk now, amid death threats and an escalation of killings
under cover of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Act Now to Protect Jani >>>
Jani spoke to Amnesty Canada just weeks ago. This is what she told us:
“We want to raise awareness about the importance of our land, our environment,
our trees and our animals…We are threatened and persecuted for protecting
something that benefits all humanity…But we won’t give up.”
Since Jani shared those inspiring words, she has had to go into hiding . The situation couldn’t be more urgent.
Assassinations of land and environment defenders are now a daily reality in
Colombia, while authorities look the other way.
Help us send a flood of messages to Colombian authorities that cannot be ignored
Jani is one of 10 cases featured in this year’s Write for Rights campaign , Amnesty International’s biggest global day of action, in which people like
you around the world send millions of letters, emails, petitions and solidarity
messages together to demand justice.
