This past summer, I volunteered at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in New Mexico. What had been a vibrant community with events and family gatherings weeks before was now silent, living in quarantine with a devastating virus.
The resources at the medical center there are like those in many smaller towns across the world: small budgets, older equipment, and fewer staff. That's why Project HOPE is sending training, supplies and volunteers like me where outbreaks mean health workers are stretched to their limits, working long hours away from their families over the holidays.
