John,
While there is still much to be thankful for -- like our historic win in IL-03 which you and many others worked so hard to help us achieve -- Thanksgiving looks a bit different this year.
So many families in Illinois’ Third District and across the country have faced enormous loss and hardship since last November. For all of those grieving the loss of a loved one or facing financial hardship, my team and I have you in our hearts and are committed to fighting for you at every step of this journey.
I have been grateful and inspired to see our community come together so resolutely as a result of the pandemic. All around me, I have seen everyday people stepping up to help their neighbors. COVID-19 has highlighted how much work we need to do to create a just, equitable world, but it has also shown how much we can accomplish when we support one another.
This Thanksgiving, I wanted to highlight some of the great organizations who have gone above-and-beyond to care for our community. If you can, consider supporting them as they approach the holiday season.
Greater Chicago Food Depository coordinates over 700 food pantries across the Chicagoland area. The work they do is crucial in ensuring that countless families are able to put food on the table. [link removed]
Beds Plus provides emergency services, overnight shelter, and housing services with the goal of ending homelessness across the southwest suburbs. [link removed]
Resurrection Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to building community in the Southwest Side and suburbs and has worked to secure affordable housing, promote civic engagement and activism, and defend immigrant rights. [link removed]
The Southwest Collective has been instrumental in supporting Midway-area small businesses and distributing essential resources in some of the Chicago neighborhoods hardest-hit by the pandemic. [link removed]
My team has also compiled a COVID resource guide with information on testing, unemployment assistance, housing assistance and much more. Access the full guide here: [link removed]
Finally, I am grateful for all of you-- the supporters and volunteers who have not only been at my side but have built a vibrant and caring community. Thank you for all you do, and stay safe this holiday season. God bless.
Marie
