Friends,

While some may be celebrating thanksgiving this week, others will recognize the National Day of Mourning, acknowledging thanksgiving day as a reminder of the genocide of Native peoples and the theft of Native lands. For a nuanced conversation about thanksgiving you can check out this podcast episode: ‘ThanksTaking or ThanksGiving?’ ([link removed]) . You can also check out this article ([link removed]) about what thanksgiving means to the Wampanoag community here in Massachusetts.

I also wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as the new 350 Massachusetts intern! I am originally from the Berkshires and recently graduated from college with degrees in environmental studies and photography. I am passionate about food justice, gardening, protecting rivers, advocating for Indigenous rights, and stopping fossil fuel pipelines. I also love bees! I am really excited for this opportunity to get to know you all and support the work you are doing across the state!

In Solidarity,

Julia St.Clair (she/her)

350 Massachusetts Intern

** Final Results from the Renewable Energy Ballot Question

------------------------------------------------------------

350 Mass (in collaboration with Act on Mass) put a nonbinding question on the ballot in 19 districts asking residents to urge their representatives to vote in favor of legislation bringing us to 100% renewable energy by 2040. This measure passed overwhelmingly in every district it appeared in! We will use this information to convince legislators to represent the overwhelming interests of their constituents and implement a path to 100% renewable energy in MA. Our other ballot question, which appeared in 16 districts, asking representatives to vote in favor of making committee votes public also passed overwhelmingly! The success of this question is being seized upon my Act on Mass' Transparency is Power ([link removed]) campaign (see below).

* Brookline 83.71%

Support the Friends of Melnea Cass Boulevard: A redesign project for this boulevard would see mature trees replaced with saplings. Preservation of an urban tree canopy is important for public health, and the objections of Roxbury residents to this project have been ignored. Send a message to the Committee on Planning, Development & Transportation ([link removed]) to demand that the current plan be revised and that Roxbury residents be included.

50th Annual National Day of Mourning: Since 1970, Native Americans and supporters have gathered in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day of Mourning on the Thanksgiving holiday. It's a day of remembrance and spiritual connection, and a reminder of the genocide of Native people and the theft of Native land. See here for information ([link removed]) on how to join the march in solidarity with the United American Indians of New England (UAINE), how to experience it virtually, and how to otherwise offer support. Thu, Nov 26, noon, Cole's Hill, Plymouth.

Act on Mass Launches Transparency is Power Campaign: At the start of every two year legislative session, the State House writes its own rule book. A new session begins in January.
