Hate crimes in the U.S. rose to the highest level in more than a decade as federal officials also recorded the highest number of hate-motivated killings since the FBI began collecting that data in the early 1990s. A former White House speechwriter who attended a meeting with white nationalists was appointed to a government commission on Holocaust memorials, a move strongly criticized by Jewish groups. And CNN’s chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour apologized for comparing President Trump’s term in office to the historical turning point in Germany and Europe that culminated in the Holocaust and the genocide of six million Jews.

Jewish Groups Call on White House to Rescind Appointment of Darren Beattie to Holocaust Historical Commission
A former White House speechwriter who attended a meeting with white nationalists was appointed to a government commission on Holocaust memorials, a move strongly criticized by Jewish groups. ADL called on the White House to rescind the appointment of Darren Beattie to the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad, an independent agency founded primarily to preserve Holocaust killings sites. Beattie once attended an event with white supremacists and participated in a panel discussion with white nationalist Peter Brimelow. The New York Times:
