** Thank You to our Veterans!
------------------------------------------------------------

On behalf of Border Angels, this holiday we recognize and ask for support of all deported veterans. We are grateful for their service and bravery and ask your help in calling your congressional representatives, urging them to support deported veterans. 🇺🇸

A U.S. Government Accountability Office report revealed that an estimated 94 veterans were deported from 2013 to 2018. However, according to groups of deported veterans, the numbers are much higher. We empathize with all of those who have served and defended this country only to be told they have no place in it, and are thinking of them today. Call and help us honor and support them! 📞

** Water Drop
------------------------------------------------------------

In typical desert fashion, the temperatures are dipping fast! With something as simple as a 30° drop in temperature from the last time we were in these canyons can make a big difference on our ability to see what passes through the area.

When we aren't dealing with the heat, we are able to take out time to explore and search for more items that that can give us more insight on the routes migrants are taking. We don't have to quickly hike in supplies and hike out. Cooler temperatures allows our groups to stay out for hours longer than before, allowing us to get further into the canyons.

Now we are in the cold season and that means we have t to alter the the supplies we leave out. During these colder times we leave water gallons, pop-top canned food, socks, beanies, gloves, flannel shirts and thermal base layers. Donations of these items are greatly appreciated!

Thank you to everyone who has continued to show up and support us regularly. We also thank everyone for reaching out wanting to volunteer – we can't wait to be able to take new volunteers on our treks! As soon as it’s safe for us to start taking larger groups, we will. Continue following our social media pages and reading our newsletter.

For any questions about Water Drops reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support!

** Familias Reunidas
Bond Program
------------------------------------------------------------
Another person has been released from immigration prison! We were able to post bond for a 39-year-old asylum seeker from Sierra Leone, Ibrahim. He was detained inside the Imperial Valley Regional Detention Center and is now ready to begin his new life.

We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and advocacy, but although we have made great strides during this election and through your amazing fundraisers, it is important to continue the work. Like Ibrahim, there are still an enormous amount of individuals in detention simply for seeking a place in this country, and we need your help!

The support and donations we have received in the last few months have helped over 60 migrants, but we need your support to continue helping more mothers, fathers, and loved ones who are still detained. Our bond fund is currently low – help us bond more people our before the holidays! Donate, donate!

All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention! 100% of donations go towards someone's freedom.

We pledge to end family separation one family at a time, will you?

Dropping by to share a delicious dinner at one of our supported shelters last week! In this video, we can see our migrant friends enjoying some ceviche de pescado. We can’t wait to see everyone at Tijuana, and share in so many beautiful moments like these.

Our shelter directors sent these images to thank us for the support, and we want to extend that gratitude to you, as it is with your continued support that these meals are possible. Donations made to our shelter aid program go towards this and so many other things like rent, bills, hygiene products and appliances. Thank you for saving lives!

** Dreamers don't wait for election results and sue Trump again
------------------------------------------------------------
By EFE News

" "We have had to take this legal step at this time of elections because the Government of Donald Trump has refused to comply with the order of the Supreme Court," Dulce GarcĂa, who led the lawsuit and the new legal action against the Government, told Efe.

The Mexican immigrant protected by DACA is part of the 10 beneficiaries who sued the Trump Government in September 2017 and who obtained a victory on June 18 when the Supreme Court left the benefit standing because it found that the way in which the Administration eliminated the program was "illegal". The ruling left open the possibility that the government will try again to rescind the program by presenting more arguments."

** Green Cards for Kids
------------------------------------------------------------

With our new Green Cards for Kids program, we are so lucky to be able to work with immigration attorney Fabiola Navarro who will be representing these children.

It is crucial that we help these children as they have already suffered enough abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.

With your continued support, we can help pay for the legal representation these children deserve in this critical time of their lives.

Lawyers can't find the parents of 666 migrant kids, a higher number than previously reported

Last month lawyers ordered to find migrant families separated by the Trump administration said they couldn't find parents for 545 kids. Now they say it's 666.

By Jacob Soboroff and Julia Ainsley

"WASHINGTON — Lawyers working to reunite migrant families separated by the Trump administration before and during its "zero tolerance" policy at the border now believe the number of separated children for whom they have not been able to find parents is 666, higher than they told a federal judge last month, according to an email obtained by NBC News.

Nearly 20 percent, or 129, of those children were under 5 at the time of the separation, according to a source familiar with the data.

In the email, Steven Herzog, the attorney leading efforts to reunite the families, explains that the number is higher because the new group includes those "for whom the government did not provide any phone number." Previously, the ** lawyers said they could not find the parents of 545 children ([link removed][UNIQID])
after they had tried to make contact but had been unsuccessful."

Trump Administration Moves To Freeze Wages For Farmworkers Before Leaving Office

By Dave Jamieson

"The Trump administration is moving ahead with a federal rule that would freeze pay for many agricultural guest workers for the next two years, even as they remain essential personnel during a pandemic.

The new regulation would change the methodology used to determine the prevailing wage rates for workers with H-2A visas. Until now, minimum pay rates for most of these workers were set by a survey the U.S. Department of Agriculture conducts twice a year, asking farms for data on their workers’ hours and earnings. The Trump administration has ** tried to suspend that survey ([link removed][UNIQID])
and intends to base future pay increases on data from the Labor Department starting in 2023."

Trump administration's revisions to the naturalization exam could make the test harder for immigrants seeking citizenship

By Priscilla Alvarez

"Washington (CNN)The Trump administration is planning to make the naturalization test, which immigrants must pass to become US citizens, longer, according to a draft memo obtained by CNN, a move that could make it more difficult and marks the latest in a string of actions intended to alter the citizenship process.

Last year, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, which administers the exam,** announced ([link removed][UNIQID])
that it was making changes to the civics portion of the test. The agency last launched revisions of the naturalization exam in 2009, "which implemented standardized test forms for both the English and civics test requirements," according to a ** May 2019 memo ([link removed][UNIQID])
. The memo also said the agency was in the process of formalizing a decennial revision process."

‘I feel betrayed’: Undocumented veterans share stories of deportation, running from immigration agents

About 5,000 non-citizens join the U.S. military each year

By Erica Hernandez

"SAN ANTONIO – Never leave another behind is a mantra followed by members of the U.S. military. But undocumented veterans who spoke to KSAT say they are being left behind by the country they served and fought for.

The ** Department of Defense ([link removed][UNIQID])
estimates that about 5,000 green card holders, or legal permanent residents who are not yet citizens, enlist in the military every year. But the path for citizenship hasn’t come easy — or at all — for active members and veterans.

In fact, from 2013 to 2018, federal immigration agents did not adhere to a policy requiring a review of a person’s military service record before deporting an undocumented veteran, according to a ** Government Accountability Office report ([link removed][UNIQID])
. Further, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents did not keep track of how many undocumented veterans they have detained and deported, the accountability office found."
