Thank You to our Veterans!
|
|
|
On behalf of Border Angels, this holiday we recognize and ask for support of all deported veterans. We are grateful for their service and bravery and ask your help in calling your congressional representatives, urging them to support deported veterans. 🇺🇸
A U.S. Government Accountability Office report revealed that an estimated 94 veterans were deported from 2013 to 2018. However, according to groups of deported veterans, the numbers are much higher. We empathize with all of those who have served and defended this country only to be told they have no place in it, and are thinking of them today. Call and help us honor and support them! 📞

In typical desert fashion, the temperatures are dipping fast! With something as simple as a 30° drop in temperature from the last time we were in these canyons can make a big difference on our ability to see what passes through the area.
When we aren't dealing with the heat, we are able to take out time to explore and search for more items that that can give us more insight on the routes migrants are taking. We don't have to quickly hike in supplies and hike out. Cooler temperatures allows our groups to stay out for hours longer than before, allowing us to get further into the canyons.
Now we are in the cold season and that means we have t to alter the the supplies we leave out. During these colder times we leave water gallons, pop-top canned food, socks, beanies, gloves, flannel shirts and thermal base layers. Donations of these items are greatly appreciated!
Thank you to everyone who has continued to show up and support us regularly. We also thank everyone for reaching out wanting to volunteer – we can't wait to be able to take new volunteers on our treks! As soon as it’s safe for us to start taking larger groups, we will. Continue following our social media pages and reading our newsletter.
For any questions about Water Drops reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, [email protected].
Thank you for your continued support!

Another person has been released from immigration prison! We were able to post bond for a 39-year-old asylum seeker from Sierra Leone, Ibrahim. He was detained inside the Imperial Valley Regional Detention Center and is now ready to begin his new life.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and advocacy, but although we have made great strides during this election and through your amazing fundraisers, it is important to continue the work. Like Ibrahim, there are still an enormous amount of individuals in detention simply for seeking a place in this country, and we need your help!
The support and donations we have received in the last few months have helped over 60 migrants, but we need your support to continue helping more mothers, fathers, and loved ones who are still detained. Our bond fund is currently low – help us bond more people our before the holidays! Donate, donate!
All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention! 100% of donations go towards someone's freedom.
We pledge to end family separation one family at a time, will you?

Dropping by to share a delicious dinner at one of our supported shelters last week! In this video, we can see our migrant friends enjoying some ceviche de pescado. We can’t wait to see everyone at Tijuana, and share in so many beautiful moments like these.
Our shelter directors sent these images to thank us for the support, and we want to extend that gratitude to you, as it is with your continued support that these meals are possible. Donations made to our shelter aid program go towards this and so many other things like rent, bills, hygiene products and appliances. Thank you for saving lives!

Dreamers don't wait for election results and sue Trump again
By EFE News
" "We have had to take this legal step at this time of elections because the Government of Donald Trump has refused to comply with the order of the Supreme Court," Dulce García, who led the lawsuit and the new legal action against the Government, told Efe.
The Mexican immigrant protected by DACA is part of the 10 beneficiaries who sued the Trump Government in September 2017 and who obtained a victory on June 18 when the Supreme Court left the benefit standing because it found that the way in which the Administration eliminated the program was "illegal". The ruling left open the possibility that the government will try again to rescind the program by presenting more arguments."

With our new Green Cards for Kids program, we are so lucky to be able to work with immigration attorney Fabiola Navarro who will be representing these children.
It is crucial that we help these children as they have already suffered enough abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.
With your continued support, we can help pay for the legal representation these children deserve in this critical time of their lives.
Please consider donating! No amount is too small!

Despite the growing challenges of this pandemic, Border Angels remains determined to protect and support the community we have pledged to serve. Even though we are currently unable to accept physical donations, we are always accepting monetary donations to support:
1. Our Shelter Aid Program❤️: Especially now that we are unable to receive these items, we need your help to provide funds for groceries, hygiene products, utility bills, rent, clothes, etc.!
2. Familias Reunidas Bond Program👨👩👧: Given the severity of this outbreak, we NEED to get as many people out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center as we can. With your help we can post bond for more individuals! (Link in highlights under Bond Program)
3. Water Drop Program💧: Even after having to postpone public water drops, our team is still constantly in the desert scouting and dropping the supplies necessary for survival. Their work never stops because the need never stops.
Thank you for your continued support.🖤🦋
