Along with posting signs, fliers and including information in our monthly resident notices, we also worked with local groups to provide onsite sign-up opportunities. In Arlington, the local non-partisan NAACP set up tables outside many of our apartment communities during the fall to check registrations, witness mail-in ballots, help people get their right to vote restored, urge people to vote early, and gave out citizenship info. Their efforts helped register more than 130 new voters! Special shout out to Gates of Ballston, where several bilingual residents jumped in and helped people navigate the process. And in Alexandria, Census 2020 employees visited two AHC properties to provide information, giveaways, and encourage our residents to complete the Census. As part of winning an ACT Census Mini Grant, we purchased $20 Target gift cards as an incentive for those who showed their confirmation code or completed the Census on site. Between both events, the Census employees spoke with over 65 residents and assisted 25 residents in completing the Census questionnaire at the table. It was a huge success!
