Along with new families moving in weekly, lots of exciting things are happening at The Apex, 256 new affordable apartments in Arlington, VA!

Flipping the Switch on Solar
In mid-October, we "Flipped the Switch" on 342 solar panels on the roof during AHC's Annual Meeting. The Apex also includes a variety of other green features, earning the property an EarthCraft Gold designation. Read more.

Excellence in Construction Award
We are excited to announce that The Apex has been awarded an Excellence in Construction award through Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Metro Washington! The project won this honor in the residential multifamily mid-rise category. Huge thanks to partners Harkins Builders tor their "Excellence in Construction" and to Michael T. Foster Architects for creating the beautiful design.
Annual Meeting: Housing & Hope

Nearly 200 supporters, volunteers, and partners attended AHC's virtual Annual Meeting in mid-October. The meeting highlighted the resiliency of our residents, the outpouring of community support, and the generosity of our neighbors.

One of the highlights was a discussion of local housing trends with NPR's Ally Schweitzer and AHC Board member Wanda Pierce. (Watch 19-min video here.)

Other key sections include:

Many thanks to Board members Justin Oliver, Rachael Schroeder, and Terron Sims for presenting information and keeping the program rolling.
Civic Engagement: Registering Voters and Encouraging Census Participation

This fall, AHC and AHC Management staff have encouraged residents to make their voices heard by by voting and participating in the 2020 Census. Along with posting signs, fliers and including information in our monthly resident notices, we also worked with local groups to provide onsite sign-up opportunities.

In Arlington, the local non-partisan NAACP set up tables outside many of our apartment communities during the fall to check registrations, witness mail-in ballots, help people get their right to vote restored, urge people to vote early, and gave out citizenship info. Their efforts helped register more than 130 new voters!

Special shout out to Gates of Ballston, where several bilingual residents jumped in and helped people navigate the process.

And in Alexandria, Census 2020 employees visited two AHC properties to provide information, giveaways, and encourage our residents to complete the Census. As part of winning an ACT Census Mini Grant, we purchased $20 Target gift cards as an incentive for those who showed their confirmation code or completed the Census on site.

Between both events, the Census employees spoke with over 65 residents and assisted 25 residents in completing the Census questionnaire at the table.  It was a huge success!
