Who’s in Charge of Keeping LA Safe? Dear Members, Who’s in charge here? That’s the question every Los Angeles resident should be asking right now. Murders are up. Shootings are up. Gang murders are up. Gun confiscations are down. Attacks on officers are up. Really, who is in charge of the LAPD. The answer, of course, is the Police Commission. It’s not commonly known, but per the City Charter, the Police Commission is in charge of the Los Angeles Police Department. Not the Chief (he’s the administrator of the Department). Not the Mayor and not the City Council. It’s the 5-civilian political appointees that sit on the Police Commission. So with crime exploding and with political meddling hampering our officers’ ability to do their job, what is the Police Commission doing about it. We have a very simple question: Where is their plan to keep LA safe? We’re starting to educate the public about the Police Commission’s role and their lack of an action plan now. Below is a new video focusing on the current state of affairs in our city. We’re also educating the public on the organization chart of the LAPD as you can see here. We would like your help in spreading the word to your family and friends on social media to help us jump start this effort. Below are links to our posts on social media. If you could take a few minutes to like and share these posts that will help us raise awareness of the Commission’s failure to act. Share League Video Facebook Share Twitter Share Instagram Share Share Commission Org Chart Facebook Share Twitter Share Instagram Share This is just the beginning. Over the next several days we will continue to push on the Commission to do the responsible thing and create a realistic plan to reduce violent crime in our city. Please be on the lookout for future messages on this topic.
