We have a plan to fight back against voter suppression. 

So, I know the Vote Save America team only sends you a note when there is really important information you need to know about an election. This is really important. In fact, it’s one of the most important things you can do to help win in 2020. ([link removed])

Let me explain.

In 2018, I ran for governor of Georgia. My opponent? The Republican who was in charge of running the state's elections. You might have heard what happened next.

In the days following, we received more than 50,000 phone calls from Georgia voters who had trouble casting their ballot or weren’t confident that the state correctly counted them. The election was decided by just over 54,000 votes.

Today, other Republicans are running the same play in states that could decide the 2020 election: Ohio Republicans wanted to purge 235,000 voters from the rolls. Texas Republicans have closed 750 polling places since 2012. Arizona Republicans tried to pass a bill that would prevent 200,000 voters from casting ballots early by mail.

Here’s the good news: We have a plan to fight back. That is why today, I am announcing that Vote Save America is partnering with my voting rights organization, Fair Fight, to help raise the funds we need for Fair Fight 2020:

Fair Fight 2020 is an unprecedented effort to fund, staff, and train full-time voter protection teams in 20 battleground states at Democratic state parties – the entities that will be critical in the general election for our eventual presidential and U.S. Senate nominees. Those teams are now starting to:
* Stand up and staff a hotline to answer voters' questions and troubleshoot any issue a voter might face before the election or at the polls
* Monitor, flag, and address any voting irregularities that could be caused by suppression efforts
* Build and train an army of volunteers to undertake a massive poll observer program that will ensure attempts to suppress the vote are addressed at the time voters cast their ballots
* Work with election officials, campaigns, and activists to ensure voting is free and fair for all in advance of elections and ensure that voters know how and where to get registered and vote as both 2020 primary and general elections approach

To do this work, we need to build full-time voter protection teams on the ground in each state and get them started a full year before the election.

Because we want to get those teams in place early, we need to raise the money as soon as possible.

No one has ever done this before. And if we do the work, it could quite literally save our democracy.
