Trump/Pence COVID Spreading Train Makes a Stop in Wilmington
Vice President Mike Pence arrived in Wilmington Tuesday in one of a series of events by Pence and President Donald Trump that seemed designed to spread the deadly COVID-19 virus to as many of their supporters as possible. Pence spoke to a standing-room-only crowd of several hundred people gathered at the Wilmington International Airport on Tuesday evening, one of his two stops in North Carolina that day. He was introduced by Republican Thom Tillis, who the polls show is trailing Democratic challenger Cal Cunningham in the race for Tillis' U.S. Senate seat.
As is typical for Trump and Pence flurry of last-minute rallies, the audience was packed together with few members of the crowd wearing masks. The event came within two weeks of at least five people in Vice President Mike Pence's orbit testing positive for coronavirus, including chief of staff Marc Short, close aide Zach Bauer and outside adviser Marty Obst, according to CNN. The appearance clearly violates guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, even though Pence is supposed to be the head of the Trump administration Coronavirus task force. GOTV Lit Drop and Phone Bank This Week
Calling all Democrats! We need you more than ever this week to phone bank and distribute literature to doors of New Hanover voters who haven't yet voted. After nearly abandoning Absentee-By-Mail voting this year, Republicans are turning out to vote in person in greater numbers than Democrats. This week marks our last chance to turn out Democrats. Don't take the chance of waking up on November 4th wishing you had done more.
You can pick up literature this week at the NHCDP Office from 9 to 5, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 6. Lit Drop organizer Shannon Schaible reports that we have now reached 21,363 doors and poll greeters are reporting voters showing up to early vote with our packets in their hands, so we are clearly making a difference.
Please be aware that the lit drops being promoted on Mobilize are organized by the Coordinated Campaign. We are working with them to maximize coverage and avoid duplication of effort.
Join the New Hanover GOTV Phone Bank This Week - It's Now or Never
The Coordinated Campaign has created a high Dem supporter, low turnout phone bank for NHCDP volunteers for the remainder of Early Voting, which ends Saturday.
We want you to keep your GOTV commitments to Coordinated Campaign phone banks, but can you spare an hour a day this week to call New Hanover voters who have not yet made it to the polls? We have a chance this year to turn New Hanover blue. Let’s do it!

The office is at 5041 New Centre Drive, Wilmington will now be staffed on Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 6:00 p.m. We will use the office primarily for pick up and drop off of yard signs, blue ballots and similar items. We do not anticipate scheduling meetings there. Our office phone number is (910) 805-5703. Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. One visitor at a time in the office. Others, please wait in the hall.
We still have about 20 4 x 8 foot Biden/Harris signs, and would appreciate your help finding them good homes. Put one on your porch, your garage door, or hang it from your balcony - it only needs to last one more week!
