Voting ends November 3, but don’t expect results that night. The results will only be known after every vote is counted, and that will take days or weeks.

On Election Night, we’ll see the media make projections of winners and losers. Those projections are often wrong, as we saw all over the country in 2018. They are not the results. The results only come from counting the votes—all the votes. And counting every vote—particularly when there’s a surge in voting, as there is this year—takes time.

So ignore the “projected winners” of “Election Night”; wait for officials to #CountEveryVote, because only then can we know the true results.

Trump and his Republican cronies might try to intimidate Democratic voters on election day. They might claim victory based on the early count of in-person ballots, ignoring or rejecting the votes cast by mail. Trump has already said we need to know the results on November 3—an impossible, unreasonable demand. We cannot know the results until we count every vote; that takes time, so we cannot know the results on November 3.

We need to be ready to respond, if they prematurely declare victory or try to halt the counting of mail-in ballots. If Trump tries to subvert the results of the election, we will mobilize a nonviolent resistance to defend our democracy and protect the results.

We need you to be part of our mobilization.

A “Protect the Results” rally has been called for November 4 at 3 PM at Embarcadero Plaza. Our goal is to inform voters about our Count Every Vote message and to inform the public how to mobilize in case Trump/Republicans try to undermine the results. Join here: [link removed][UNIQID]

We need volunteers. Sign up to volunteer here. ([link removed][UNIQID])

We need our elected leaders to stand by democracy—and by those who defend it.

We’re asking you to call ALL your Members of Congress, Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Mayor Breed, and your Supervisor TODAY. Urge them to use their authority to stop voter intimidation, make sure every vote is counted, no matter how long it takes, and stand by their constituents who stand up for democracy.
* Contact your Members of Congress ([link removed][UNIQID]) and tell them: COUNT EVERY VOTE!

* Call Governor Newsom, AG Becerra, and SoS Padilla ([link removed][UNIQID]) and tell them: Use your authority to stop voter intimidation and COUNT EVERY VOTE!

* Call your Mayor and Board of Supervisors ([link removed][UNIQID]) and tell them: COUNT EVERY VOTE and stand by San Franciscans standing up for democracy!

Don’t delay—vote TODAY!

The time has come—the 2020 Election is NOW. If you are registered to vote, you will soon receive your ballot by mail, if it hasn’t already arrived. Considering the urgency, now is the time to follow the plan you made ([link removed][UNIQID]) to vote as early as possible. Be an #OctoberVoter and get your ballot in before November.

Know where to drop off your ballot. You probably shouldn’t mail your ballot at this point unless you have no alternative. San Francisco voters can drop off their ballot at the Voting Center ([link removed][UNIQID]) , at 11 drop-off sites at public libraries ([link removed][UNIQID]) (weekends only), or at any polling place in San Francisco ([link removed][UNIQID]) (November 3 only). If you have to vote provisionally (because you marked a wrong choice or aren’t already registered), you should go to your local polling place, so that you’ll have all the right races.

Tracking your ballot, before you get it and after you cast it: California is providing online, email, text, and phone hotline resources to voters to check the status of their ballot this year. San Francisco voters can track their ballot on the Voter Portal at [link removed][UNIQID] voters throughout the state can sign up for ballot tracking notifications at [link removed][UNIQID].

Haven’t gotten anything in the mail about this election? Check your voter registration status right now. Yes, even California purges its voter rolls, so if you haven’t voted in a few elections, you may have been removed. If you’ve moved or changed your name, your registration may be out of date. It never hurts to check and it only takes a minute.
* If you’re registered in San Francisco, use the City’s Voter Portal ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
* Elsewhere in California, use the state’s Voter Status page ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Not registered to vote? The deadline to register has passed, but don’t fret—ask about Conditional Voter Registration ([link removed][UNIQID]) at your polling place or at the Voting Center ([link removed][UNIQID]) .

Looking for guidance? The presidential race isn’t the only thing to vote on. There are California propositions ([link removed][UNIQID]) and City ballot measures ([link removed][UNIQID]) , and we have our ballot guides plus other resources on our vote page ([link removed][UNIQID]) . This page also links to all of the information described above—it’s your one-stop shop for all the information you’ll need to make your voice heard in this election.

It’s not too late. You can still vote early!

If you want to mail in your ballot using our beloved Postal Service, time’s running out. For dropping it off at a county drop-off location, look at your county‘s list; in San Francisco, we have 11 drop-off locations ([link removed][UNIQID]) —one in every district—plus the Voting Center ([link removed][UNIQID]) in front of Bill Graham Auditorium, near City Hall. If you leave it until Election Day, you can drop off your ballot at your local polling place.
