Children and Families in Trouble: Census Data Show Declining Health Coverage & Enduring Poverty [ www.clasp.org/publications/report/brief/children-and-families-trouble-census-data-show-declining-health-coverage ]

On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual reports on poverty, income, and health insurance coverage. The data show resounding signs of trouble for our country's lowest-income residents. Most alarmingly, the number of people with health insurance declined for the first time since 2009. And while poverty continued a sluggish decline in 2018, poverty rates for children and young adults remained unacceptably high, with troublingly large racial disparities. CLASP responded with a statement on Tuesday providing our quick response and a longer brief with deeper analysis and policy implications.

Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility Is Not a SNAP Loophole [ [link removed] ] The Trump Administration claims that its proposal to end broad-based categorical eligibility (BBCE) would "close a loophole" that makes it "easy" to get SNAP.
