I expect the worst from the Trump Administration, but this is beyond the pale:
>>> "Ross Threatened to Fire NOAA Officials Who Didn't Back Up Trump's Fake Hurricane Warnings" -- GQ
Trump's Secretary of Commerce threatened to fire officials who wouldn't lie about the impacts of a natural disaster -- Just to save the President's ego.
People shouldn't have to choose between doing their jobs and covering for the President's blatant lies. If you think science and facts should have a leading role in our government, add your name to our petition >> [link removed]
Trump's false claim that Hurricane Dorian would hit Alabama was more than just a misstep -- It was dangerous.
Hurricane warnings can lead to panic as people rush to buy supplies and escape danger. And people in the path of natural disasters need to know that they can depend on government agencies for accurate, life-saving information.
But despite weather forecasters' assurances that the hurricane would not impact Alabama, President Trump insisted that he was correct -- even going so far as to edit a map of the hurricane's projected path with a marker.
Trump's childlike behavior is absurd, but it's not out of character. It follows a pattern of attacking science and ignoring facts that we've seen since Trump took office:
>>>Trump has worked to:
> Slash scientific advisory committees
> Convince people climate change is a "hoax"
> Gut the Endangered Species Act
> Censor climate scientists and bury research
> Open our waters to offshore drilling
> Cut methane regulations
We shouldn't have to fight for science, facts, and common sense to have a place in our government. Add your name to join us in standing up to Trump and Secretary Ross's dangerous disregard for the truth >> [link removed]
At every opportunity, this Administration is turning back the clock on scientific progress. It's time to change that.
