Justice for Officer Paul Verna Dear Members, One of Officer Verna’s killers may go free. We need you to take action to help ensure justice for our murdered brother, LAPD Officer Paul Verna. Paul was murdered on June 2, 1983. Both of his killers, Raynard Cummings and Kenneth Gay, were violent career criminals who were convicted and sentenced to death for their cold-blooded crime. Since Gay’s original murder conviction, California’s criminal justice system has thrown out the original death sentence and ordered a new trial on whether Mr. Gay should be sentenced to death. The new jury agreed with the first jury and recommended death. Unfortunately, the second death sentence was also overturned by the courts due to “ineffective counsel.” Now, the District Attorney must decide whether to retry Kenneth Gay for Officer Verna’s murder. Paul’s two sons, Ryan and Bryce, followed in his footsteps and joined the LAPD. Ryan is retired and Bryce remains an active LAPD officer. We are asking you to assist them in demanding justice for their father. There are two things you can do to help. Send an Email First, send an email to District Attorney Jackie Lacey and her top deputies, urging her to retry Kenneth Gay for Officer Verna’s murder. Click this link to send an email now. It will take you less than one-minute. There is a court hearing this coming Friday in Gay’s case. Please click the link and send an email as soon as possible Show Up Second, Paul’s sons, Ryan and Bryce, are seeking to create a strong presence of LAPD officers at this Friday’s hearing. If you can attend, please do so. They are asking people to assemble outside of the San Fernando Court at 0830. The address is 900 3rd Street, San Fernando, California, Department N, Judge Hayden Zacky. Now, more than ever, we must send a clear and unmistakable message that violence against police officers will never be tolerated and if you murder a police officer, you will be held strictly accountable for your vile actions. Please take action to help our brothers Ryan and Bryce get justice for the murder of their father, LAPD Officer Paul Verna.
