One of Officer Verna’s killers may go free. We need you to take action to help ensure justice for our murdered brother, LAPD Officer Paul Verna.
Paul was murdered on June 2, 1983. Both of his killers, Raynard Cummings and Kenneth Gay, were violent career criminals who were convicted and sentenced to death for their cold-blooded crime. Since Gay’s original murder conviction, California’s criminal justice system has thrown out the original death sentence and ordered a new trial on whether Mr. Gay should be sentenced to death. The new jury agreed with the first jury and recommended death. Unfortunately, the second death sentence was also overturned by the courts due to “ineffective counsel.”
Now, the District Attorney must decide whether to retry Kenneth Gay for Officer Verna’s murder. Paul’s two sons, Ryan and Bryce, followed in his footsteps and joined the LAPD. Ryan is retired and Bryce remains an active LAPD officer. We are asking you to assist them in demanding justice for their father.
There are two things you can do to help.
