Mikie Sherrill :: U.S. Congress

Timely COVID-19 test results are essential to slowing the spread of the coronavirus and responding to the pandemic. Today, I'm proud to share with you that I introduced a plan that would promote a faster turnaround of COVID-19 test results.

Test results after 72 hours are less relevant and even pose further complications. Someone who tests negative has to wait longer to return to work and risks losing out on a paycheck. And it delays someone who tests positive from taking necessary precautions, quarantining, and starting the process of contact tracing.

I consulted with public health experts to create a plan that would incentivize labs to provide faster COVID-19 test results to ensure a timely and effective response.

I'm fighting to respond to this health and economic crisis, but Washington Republicans want to put a stop to my work in Congress. With less than a month until Election Day, will you chip in to help me continue my fight for New Jersey?

Right now, labs receive a flat rate of federal reimbursement for COVID-19 testing regardless of when they return results.

My plan would tie reimbursement to test result turnaround times and reward labs with faster turnarounds:
It also includes provisions to provide more time to labs serving underserved or rural communities.

I'm working across the aisle to respond to the health crisis to ensure New Jerseyans and Americans across the country can safely get back to their lives. I want to continue this work after 2020, too, but I need your help -- if you can, please chip in to our campaign today.

Thank you for all you do,

Mikie
