After a productive few weeks of working in the district, I am ready to head back to Washington and tackle the important issues facing our nation. One of the immediate issues I plan to tackle is gun violence.
Gun violence is a massive challenge we’re facing as a nation. And from background checks to assault weapons bans, House Democrats worked earlier this year to pass sweeping reforms to take weapons of war off our streets and to keep guns out of the hands of people with a history of violence.

Unfortunately, the silence from Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans on this issue has been deafening. It is clear they have all but abdicated their responsibility as lawmakers in exchange for giant checks from the powerful gun lobby. But just because they are refusing to act, doesn’t mean we stop fighting.
With this week marking the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, we’re looking to ramp up the pressure on my colleagues in the Senate to get them to act NOW on passing a new assault weapons ban.
