Hello, John! Here is your monthly update from Prevention First about programs, training, resources and prevention news from trusted sources. "I consider the success of my day based on the seeds I sow, not the harvest I reap." Robert Louis Stevenson National Drug Take Back Day is October 24th! The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and anonymous means of disposing prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the risks of misuse. We will be hosting a collection site at Prevention First headquarters, 2800 Montvale Drive, in Springfield, IL. All participating collection sites will be open from 10AM - 2PM. Stop at any of the locations to safely dispose of your unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medication. Addressing the contributing factors is the key to lowering your substance use rates. Each factor has specific evidence-based strategies and policies that have been proven to reduce rates when done with fidelity. Strategies and policies to prevent easy retail access include Compliance Checks, Mandatory Responsible Beverage Service Training, and Alcohol Outlet Density Regulation. A microlearning video on how to prevent easy retail access is available here. The APRC can assist you in analyzing your IYS data, selecting strategies, and building capacity on alcohol policy and law enforcement strategies. The APRC also provides certified training to law enforcement on those strategies. If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Kellie Henrichs or Jody Heavilin. It’s spooky season once again, and what better way to kick off October than participating in this month’s TextLess Live More initiative: Text or Treat. The idea is simple: set goals for yourself to stay off either your text messages or social media for a certain amount of time each day. This can be a window, like from 3-5pm, a goal to not exceed a number of hours each day, or something as simple as staying off Instagram for 20 minutes. If you accomplish your goal, reward yourself with a treat! RED RIBBON WEEK 2020: Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.TM The largest substance-use prevention campaign in the nation, that takes place from Oct. 23rd to Oct. 31st each year, is back with a theme that aims to amplify the mission to encourage children, families and communities to live healthy, happy and drug-free lives. It also serves as a reminder that we are all empowered with shaping the communities around us through positivity, bravery and strength. Click Here to access the Red Ribbon Week planning guide.
