It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2020 United Nations International Older Persons' Day [ [link removed] ] edition of the Age Friendly Bulletin. The day is celebrated across the world every 1st October.
Although we are not able to meet in person to celebrate this important day in Nottingham, we would like to ask you to make an older persons day by visiting (socially distanced of course!) or phoning them. We would also like to request your assistance in eradicating the negative perceptions that have increased during COVID. The media focus of all older people being frail and needing special support is increasing stigma and discrimination against the majority who make considerable contributions to their local communities and wider society. We ask that you join Age Friendly Nottingham in spreading the word on this day that older residents in Nottingham are
*Valuable not Vulnerable*
However you celebrate, I hope that you enjoy this special day.
*Councillor Eunice Campbell-Clark
Nottinghams Age Friendly Nottingham Champion*

Age-positive icons competition launched
The Centre for Ageing Better is launching an online competition [ [link removed] ] to rethink the symbols and icons commonly used in public to represent ageing and older age groups.
Ageing Better hopes to challenge stereotypes and imagery associated with old age in particular, the familiar illustrations of walking sticks and hunched backs. Research [ [link removed] ]has shown that stereotypes can become self-fulfilling prophecies, as they can affect how older people view themselves, their own capabilities and the kinds of activities they engage with.

You October Jigsaw
Goose Fair Goose
As Goose Fair is normally held in Nottingham this weekend, we thought you might enjoy doing a jigsaw of Goosey. For this year only, Goosey is not posing on the roundabout near The Forest Recreation Ground she has flown to the Old Market Square until Sunday. She has, of course, donned her specially-made face mask, reminding people that its Covid that put a stop to Goose Fair and everyone should continue to wear masks so the fair can resume in 2021.
How quickly can you complete the Goosey jigsaw [ [link removed] ]?
