September has finally arrived! What better time than back-to-school season to announce the winners of AU’s annual essay contest for high school students.

Our three finalists wrote thoughtful, powerful essays about the unprecedented responsibility of their generation to defend religious freedom. I was deeply encouraged by their understanding of the importance of separating religion and government and how crucial it is to everyone from religious minorities to LGBTQ people to women.

At AU, we realize that preserving church-state separation is an intergenerational endeavor. That’s why we are committing ourselves to bringing more young people and students into our movement.

Americans United Announces the winners of the 2019 Student Essay Contest:
High school juniors and seniors were asked to write about what the next generation can do to counter the regressive political agenda that seeks to misuse religious freedom to justify discrimination against the LGBTQ community, women, religious minorities and the nonreligious.
