Israel Floods the U.S. with Hasbara But Americans Aren’t Buying
[link removed]
The scale of the post-Oct. 7, 2023, atrocities in Gaza, the openly genocidal statements of Israeli leaders and the implacable support for mass atrocities by Israel’s Jewish citizens have inflicted collateral damage on hasbara (Israeli propaganda). This has severely undermined the carefully cultivated image of the Jewish ethnocracy. A flood of new marketing initiatives and spending has failed to stop the slide in the state’s global reputation.

Israel’s Abuse of “Blood Libel” Claim
[link removed]
The term "blood libel" has been applied for centuries to describe false claims of collective Jewish barbarity. However, Israel and its supporters now regularly abuse this term, using it to dismiss factual criticisms of Israel as vile anti-Semitism.
Claims that Israel has killed tens of thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip, that it has targeted journalists and medical workers and tortured prisoners, are all supported by copious testimony and often by physical evidence. When an Israeli apologist refers to them as “blood libels,” it should be recognized that this has no foundation in fact and is another example of the weaponization of accusations of anti-Semitism in the service of the state of Israel.

Building and Sustaining a Post-AIPAC Future

While the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) still has ample money and proximity to power, “there is no going back to the old way of doing things—and they know it,” Cory Archibald, co-founder of Track AIPAC, said at a recent conference held by the Arab Center Washington DC. “The ground has fundamentally shifted. I like to say the AIPAC era is over—and I believe that....We have turned their spending from a strategic advantage into a liability."
“Gaza has become a litmus test," she added. "Voters use a candidate’s position on AIPAC and Gaza to decide whether a politician has a basic moral compass to be trusted about anything.”

Bread on Uncle Milad’s Table: A Novel
[link removed]
Milad, a delicate baker married to his love Zainab, adores making bread. He just wants to bake artisanal ciabatta in his tidy home in 1980s Tripoli, Libya and clean in domestic bliss for his lovely wife. Is that too much to ask? Most of the women in Milad’s life admire him for being himself, but, tragically, most of the men try to shape Milad like a loaf of French fougasse into the opposite of what women admire.
Ultimately, Milad joins the military, and it haunts him for decades. In the military, the main officer calls him “Doughboy.” His fragile spirit can only take so much pressure. Event upon event unravels Milad’s normally dogged sense of self, leading to disastrous consequences.
Bread on Uncle Milad’s Table is a masterful and beautifully told warning against society’s rejection of individuality. While it is in many ways a eulogy of a sensitive young man’s spirit that he was told to squash, it is also an indictment of that same man.
