I'm proud to announce that this year's Virtual Innovative Housing Summit will feature a keynote presentation by Richard Rothstein, the author of The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America.

Rothstein has gained notoriety in the housing policy and racial justice world in recent years, following the release of his book and the insightful research that revealed the local, state, and federal housing policies that have perpetuated segregation in America. He also serves as a Distinguished Fellow of the Economic Policy Institute, and a Senior Fellow (emeritus) at the Thurgood Marshall Institute of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.

We will kick off the summit with a keynote address from Professor Rothstein - grounded in the historical fair housing barriers created by local elected leaders and planners through zoning laws still on the books today, and how we can begin to create integrated neighborhoods with abundant housing options for all.

From there, we will spend the rest of our time together with housing experts focused on the intersection of racial justice, housing policy, and innovations in the built environment.

Kol Peterson is an ADU expert based in Portland, Oregon, who has helped catalyze the exponential growth of ADUs in Portland over the last decade through ADU advocacy, education, consulting, policy work, and entrepreneurship.
