CAMPAIGNS UPDATE
September 2020

Hi John

The government is pushing ahead with changes to the planning system that pose a
huge risk to the countryside and the communities living and working within it.

Ministers want to take decision-making powers away from communities and local
councils, and hand them over to housing developers and Westminster officials.

Our democratic ability to shape the future of where we live could be lost with
the stroke of a pen.

We must resist this, but we don’t have long. Will you sign our petition against
these changes?

Yes, I'll sign

BE PART OF THE REGENERATION
[[link removed]]This year has been tough for all of us. But so many of us have found that
connecting with nature and the countryside has helped us through. It was there
for us. It refreshed us. It regenerated us.

Now the countryside needs us to do our bit in return.

Since we were founded almost a century ago, we’ve celebrated how the countryside
lifts our spirits. Now we’re calling on everyone to join our movement to
regenerate the countryside – for today, tomorrow, forever.

Will you watch and share our short film so as many people as possible can
#JoinTheRegeneration?

MAXWELL AYAMBA - ACCESS CHAMPION
'It’s often said that the countryside is open to everybody. But there are many
barriers to access for Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) and lower-income
communities.’

Access champion and journalist Maxwell Ayamba has connected hundreds of people
with the outdoors.

He explains why he loves helping people discover the English countryside – and
why it’s so important that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the
countryside.

AVIAN DEPARTURES
While many of us are forgoing trips abroad this year and embracing the
staycation, the birds that frequent our countryside are forever on the move.

Some travel incredible distances – swallows make a 12,000 mile round trip every
year, spending the winter in southern Africa.

Get your eyes to the skies with our guide to our departing summer visitors.
Which will you spot?
