Dear Friend,
British Olympic diver, Freddie Woodward, is bravely speaking out about his recovery from pornography addiction.
“The first time I realized I had a problem was still in my teenage years because
I found it incredibly difficult to revise for exams, to do homework,
” Woodward explained. “Any time I sat behind a computer and I came up against any sort of cognitive block, I'd immediately default to wanting to watch porn.”
Woodward’s struggle with pornography addiction lasted for over a decade.
For years, he hid it with shame. Finally, in his 20s, he decided to speak publicly about his recovery journey.
“I ... wanted to share this with other men, to make them believe it was possible [to recover]
, to make them believe that there's nothing wrong with them, to not put extra shame on them, and also to try and show other men a better way to be able to quit porn,” Woodward explained.
His message of encouragement to men is:
“If you become a person who doesn't need porn anymore, then it has no power over you.”
Woodward is one of the growing number of celebrities and public figures speaking out about the harms of pornography addiction.
The science has been there for years.
Now, finally, culture is catching up.
