THEY ARE CLOSING INTomorrow, 200 cyclists leave Stamford and ride the last 62 miles into lower Manhattan behind an FDNY escort.
WHO THEY'RE HONORING
Rich Smith is honoring John M. Moran. He was only 43 years old. Twenty-two years in the FDNY, Battalion 49. He had a law degree from Fordham University. His colleagues remember him for his leadership, his warmth, and his love of music. On September 11, 2001, he responded to the World Trade Center. He never came home.Marvin Williams is riding to honor Chuck Costello, who died on 9/11. When the planes hit the towers, he ran two miles to help firefighters get people trapped in the elevators out. They called him the Elevator Man.
Every rider on this road is carrying a name. Every mile has a reason.

DAY 4 RECAPNew Haven police escorted over 200 cyclists for the first 5 miles. They completed 62.9 miles from New Haven to Stamford. Total so far: 279.8 miles. Tomorrow they reach mile 343.
Along the way, challenging hills met them, and the Weston Fire Department showed everyone a 1931 fire truck at a rest stop.Tonight they sleep in Stamford, winding down with mini therapy horses.

WHY THIS RIDE EXISTSFirefighters get occupational cancer at rates the rest of us don't. The first responders who survived 9/11 are still fighting. This ride funds three organizations that refuse to let that stand: Friends of Firefighters, Boston Fire Cancer Foundation, and Livestrong.
