Friend—

Last week, the Black and Brown Alliance of Detroit DSA helped organize 40 Detroit grassroots organizations <[link removed]> to sign-on to a statement <[link removed]> demanding the resignation of Police Chief James Craig.

Chief Craig has lied excessively to protect his department, routinely dismissed protesters as outside agitators, and failed to validate the honest and real concerns of Detroit people and protesters. Using Chief Craig's own words, "Go, it's just not working."

While comrades are in the streets protesting, the BBA and DSA are doing preparing for upcoming legislative fights through our Defund the Police Campaign. Join the struggle by visiting www.metrodetroitdsa.com/defund <[link removed]>.

Saturday, September 12th from 10AM-12PM

Detroit DSA is one of the fastest growing chapters in the nation. This summer we grew to over 1,000 members! With tremendous growth comes many changes and a need to develop the future vision for our Chapter.

Join us for this special and intimate general meeting where we will, together, review and discuss the priorities and goals for the Detroit DSA chapter. We plan to pose a few questions to assist both general and small group discussion among comrades.

We encourage all of our members to attend this meeting. This meeting is open to the public, but only members can vote.

Liberation Mondays <[link removed]>is back! This coming week we're joined by Moratorium Now <[link removed]> and others to talk about housing justice!

We know folks really enjoyed and benefited from the first series of Liberation Mondays this summer in different parts of the city as our speakers placed the present moment and its demands in the larger context of the fight to end capitalist exploitation. We talked about what it could look like to defund the police and rebuild our neighborhoods. Now we will focus on what is needed to fund the things we actually need in our neighborhoods.

Liberation Mondays has been a neighborhood-based political education project of Community Movement Builders, the General Baker Institute, and the Black & Brown Alliance of the Detroit Democratic Socialist of America. It focuses on the movement to defund the police, defend black lives, and rebuild our neighborhoods.

This is an in-person event. Please bring PPE and maintain social distancing guidelines.

Event will also be live-streamed on the main DSA and BBA Facebook pages.
