After passing Puerto Rico earlier this week, Hurricane
Dorian slammed into the Bahamas today as a catastrophic Category 5 storm.
Families there are enduring wind gusts over 220 mph and storm surge up to
18-23 feet above normal tide levels.
Mercy Corps is mobilizing a team of emergency responders — which includes
members from our Puerto Rico team — to the Bahamas following Hurricane
Dorian’s landfall as one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes on
record.

Our team will begin rapidly determining the most pressing needs. We will
focus on the most vulnerable households and people in the greatest need of
aid. From our experience in these moments, we know the most pressing needs
are likely to include clean water, sanitation and temporary food and
shelter resources.
