Mercy Corps mobilizing to help survivors ▸ |
After passing Puerto Rico earlier this week, Hurricane Dorian slammed into the Bahamas today as a catastrophic Category 5 storm. Families there are enduring wind gusts over 220 mph and storm surge up to 18-23 feet above normal tide levels. Mercy Corps is mobilizing a team of emergency responders — which includes members from our Puerto Rico team — to the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian’s landfall as one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes on record. Our team will begin rapidly determining the most pressing needs. We will focus on the most vulnerable households and people in the greatest need of aid. From our experience in these moments, we know the most pressing needs are likely to include clean water, sanitation and temporary food and shelter resources. Please make an emergency gift to our Humanitarian Response Fund. When disasters like this strike, you can be there with us to help meet survivors with compassion. Your gift today helps people and families around the world survive in moments of crisis and natural disaster, overcome poverty, and build brighter futures for their communities. Thank you for being there for our global community during times of crisis. Neal Keny-Guyer, Mercy Corps CEO |
