Who are Americans today?

olds, and ways of living than the founders could have anticipated. So, who =
are Americans in this historic moment? Here=E2=80=99s a [semiquincentennial=
snapshot]([link removed]

What do you get a nation for its 250th? Better data.

Data is the love letter we send to our future selves. It makes so many thin=
gs easier.

Roads in your neighborhood getting repaired? Thank government data. Ever ne=
ed to go on unemployment? Bureau of Labor Statistics data helps make that p=
ossible. Are there enough kilowatts available to cool your house in the sum=
mer? Again, government data.

Yet the nation=E2=80=99s outdated data infrastructure doesn=E2=80=99t meet =
modern needs. [Join us in telling Congress]([link removed]
pend-on) to update the ways it collects and uses this crucial information. =
It=E2=80=99s your 250th birthday, America! Treat yo self!

Data behind the news

Twenty-five states, along with Washington, DC, are suing the Trump administ=

The Supreme Court, in its recent ruling on National Republican Senatorial C=

One last fact

[When was your state founded?]([link removed]
state-founded/?utm_content=3Donelastfact_image)

The Constitution gives Congress the sole authority to admit [new states to =
the union]([link removed]
ontent=3Donelastfact_text). Most states form by drafting a state constituti=
on and submitting it for Congressional approval. Once approved, it passes a=
n Act of Admission, which the president signs, officially granting statehoo=
d.

Sixteen states formed in the 18th century, 29 in the 19th century, and five=
in the 20th century.

When was your state founded?
