When an interest group takes a position on an issue unrelated to its mission, it creates problems for its members who disagree with that position. This problem is prevalent on the Left, which often coerces groupthink. Abortion is one such leftist issue. Gun control is another. The American Bar Association, NAACP, labor unions, and major medical associations have all staked out anti-gun positions.
