** Border Angels Update
------------------------------------------------------------
Angel of the Week
Thank you Katerine!

We are so happy Emily was able to get paired with you for our first ever virtual mentorship program. We had no idea how this was going to go but through your positivity and hard work. you made it happen! You exceeded our expectations and set the bar high for future interns.

Your skills are great indicators of your future success. We wish you well on your road to success!

** Familias Reunidas
Bond Program
------------------------------------------------------------

We are happy to share with you one more story of the recipients from our Families Reunidas Bond Program, Ronald. He is a Haitian asylum seeker who was in detention for seven months.

We are thrilled to have helped bond out one more person OMDC and reunited with his family. One more person will no longer have to experience the horrible conditions of ICE jails. He is now starting his new life life in Florida and is excited to finally be free.

Ronald is the 49th person to be bonded out, and we are continuing to use this momentum to speak out against injustices and get as many individuals out of detention as soon as possible. We are so grateful to all of you for your continued support. We are relying on you to use your voice, and use your platforms to help spread awareness about this issue and cause.

Given our world's current state, it is difficult to feel like one can make a difference. But, by not remaining silent, by continuing to question and put pressure on unfair and unjust policies, you are helping inspire change.

You all continue to amaze us. We see you, we appreciate you and we thank you!

Let this story serve as a reminder of all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members waiting in such conditions in detention, simply for seeking a place or a part in this country. Ronald represents so many others being subject to racist and inhumane policies, and we must not forget the urgency of getting everyone we can out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center. This pandemic continues to be unforgiving, and we will not allow any more lives lost. Again, we thank you for your support and ask you to continue to help us make sure our folks are #FreeAndAlive

Water Drop Program

Our Water Drop team thanks you all for your nonstop support! Your messages on social media motivate them to keep on making trips to the desert during the summer heat. Keep the messages of hope and inspiration coming!

Extreme summer temperatures are not a deterrent for people crossing. We're able to get out there every week because of your support.

No matter the weather, nor how extreme the temperatures get, we have not, and will never leave the desert. As long as people are crossing through, we’ll be there.

Due to the extreme weather, we are only taking experienced Water Drop volunteers for the time being. As soon as we can safely take new volunteers out with us, we will! Make sure to signup for our newsletter to receive updates on Water Drop schedules.

Continue sharing posts and making donations!

Let's continue working together to minimize suffering and death in the borderlands.

For any questions about Water Drops reach out to our Co-Director James Cordero at [email protected].

Thank you for your continued support!

Shelter aid update!

This delicious dinner was prepared at one of our migrant shelters. Shelter residents are able to enjoy these dinners and food thanks, in part, to your donations and support. Donations have once again gone towards covering another month's rent, utilities, and other bills!

We hope your hearts are filled with joy and hope knowing that you have helped ensure that a shelter has bunk beds and another has warm food. You're all helping our migrant friends and family have their basic needs met.

We hope to see all of our shelter friends very soon once we can safely congregate together.

Thank you for your continued support!

** Call to action!
------------------------------------------------------------

CALL TO ACTION!!!

At the beginning of this year, we rallied on behalf of Rocío Rebollar Gómez, mother of a U.S. Army officer, property and business owner, to stop her deportation after having lived in the U.S. for over 30 years. Having been deported before, she was not eligible for asylum despite the increased cartel violence in her home country. She had applied for a special permit and extension to stay in the U.S., and when she went to check in with ICE, she was detained and later deported.

This country’s policies continue to rip immigrnat families apart, even for those, like Ms. Rebollar, that are “model citizens".

Today we are asking for your help once more.

** Green Cards for Kids
------------------------------------------------------------

With our new Green Cards for Kids program, we are so lucky to be able to work with immigration attorney Fabiola Navarro who will be representing these children.

It is crucial that we help these children as they have already suffered enough abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.

With your continued support, we can help pay for the legal representation these children deserve in this critical time of their lives.

We must preserve asylum to protect children

BY MIRIAM ABAYA, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR

"Immigrants facing asylum in the United States have always faced a daunting system. But for decades, people fleeing persecution had a fighting chance to find a haven in this country. For many — especially children —asylum has meant the difference between life and death. Today, we are on the cusp of losing that system in its entirety as the Trump administration proposes ** rule after rule ([link removed][UNIQID])
designed to decimate the asylum system."

United Nations refugee agency blasts US asylum limits

By Priscilla Alvarez

" (CNN)The United Nations refugee agency raised alarm over Trump administration rules limiting asylum claims, arguing in a new court filing that the plan could run afoul of the US' international obligations.

Over the course of Donald Trump's presidency, the administration has released a series of regulations putting strict restrictions on asylum, setting up a number of obstacles for migrants seeking refuge in the US. At issue in Thursday's filing is a policy that would bar people who illegally cross the US-Mexico border from claiming asylum outside of official ports of entry.
In a ** proposed amicus brief ([link removed][UNIQID])
, the UN refugee agency said the policy, coupled with a 2019 presidential proclamation, "reflects a substantial change to United States asylum policy that, if implemented, would be at variance with three binding international law protections.""
