Established by voters in 2000, the Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) will oversee the mapping of Arizona’s districts beginning in 2021. This five-person commission is limited to two members of the same political party, and will consist of two Democrats, two Republicans, and one independent who serves as chairman -- the critical swing vote.
